Jacinta Campbell was crowned Miss Universe Australia in a glittering ceremony at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth 17th June 2010

The Gold Coast girl was amongst stiff competition from gorgeous talent representing Australia’s six States and two territories.

Campbell will head to the 59th annual Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada to compete with beauties from 83 other nations.

“I am super determined to bring home the crown,” a teary eyed Jacinta said.

“This is the biggest honour…I will get to represent my beautiful country overseas so I just feel so blessed.”

On the 17th of March, Christopher Hodges ran a very successful workshop studying painting forms and shapes, and those who attended created their own artwork with his guidance and the fine artist materials provided by Sofitel Sydney.

The 17th Biennale of Sydney begins 12th May 2010 in venues and sites around Sydney Harbour, including: Cockatoo Island, Pier 2/3, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Artspace and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

All works have been selected from around the world by visionary Artistic Director David Elliott and are based around the theme “THE BEAUTY OF DISTANCE: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age”. Artists’ works will be presented alongside the work of contemporary writers, filmmakers, commentators and musicians. Elliott says: ‘The aim of this Biennale is to bring together work from diverse cultures, at the same time, on the equal playing field of contemporary art, where no culture can assume superiority over any other.’

The Biennale of Sydney has the reputation of producing exhibitions that give our community new ways of looking at the world and new ways of seeing and understanding art. Each event enlivens our city’s public spaces with contemporary art and stimulates people to engage with Sydney’s spectacular museums and cultural centres. The events have proved to be a natural fit with Sydney, reflecting the blend of experiment and enjoyment of innovation that has long been a hallmark of Australia's largest city.
