Dedicated Technical Support & State-Of-The-Art Technology

1st June 2017

For the 12th year, Sydney’s ‘hotel for the arts’ Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is proud to be yet again the Official Hotel Partner of the eagerly anticipated Archibald Prize, showcasing at the Art Gallery of NSW from 29th July – 22nd October 2017.

This year, Sofitel Sydney celebrates Australia’s most extraordinary Art Event with a “Best of” experience, an art inspired High Tea and a cultural getaway.

Walk down memory lane as you revisit some of the most memorable portraits of Archibald Prize winners, Packing Room Prize winners and People’s Choice winners from the last 5 years, reproduced in full in Sofitel Sydney Wentworth’s foyer from 19th July 2017 – 8th October 2017.

The showcased display includes remarkable pieces reproduced from the Packing Room Prize 2016: Betina Fauvel-Ogden, George Calombaris, masterchef, Winner: Packing Room Prize 2011: Vincent Fantauzzo, Matt Moran and Winner: Archibald Prize 2013: Del Kathryn Barton, hugo.

In addition, the iconic hotel demonstrates its culinary and artistic skills and offers guests an art-inspired High Tea, served in Soiree Bar from 1st July 2017 – 31st August 2017 to celebrate last year’s finalist’s portrait by Melissa Ritchie.

The interpretative collection of food-art delicacies puts fun and creativity back into high tea, inspired by elements from the finalist portrait, with fine art delectables including pen smoked salmon, lemon cream cheese lemon zests, micro radish, brioche, painted macaron, red velvet madeleine, chocolate tartlet and homemade scones.

The signature element is called the “Cookies Match Box” which highlights a miniature version of the iconic match box in Melissa’s impressive artwork.

Hotel Manager of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Craig Reaume said: “We’re delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with the Archibald Prize. By showcasing this unique display within the walls of this iconic hotel we reward our valued guests and remind them about the most remarkable Archibald portraits from recent times.”
