About the Wentworth Ballroom
From the day it opened its doors in 1966, the grand Wentworth Ballroom has always been the choice for celebrities and dignataries stopping by for a gala event or business meetings.
In 1983 Princes Charles and Princess Diana were last seen dancing together during their first official tour to Australia and New Zealand. The heritage listed floor they danced on has recently been uncovered during the new carpet installation.
Prince Philip was the first royal guest, staying at the Wentworth in March 1967 to open a Commonwealth Study Conference and present the Duke of Edinburgh awards. The inaugral ARIA Aawards were held at the hotel in 1987. John Farnham won six awards on the night and a little band called Crowded House was chosen as best new talent.
Located on level 3, the 629m² Wentworth Ballroom is renowned for its grandeur. The spectacular chandeliers and classic 1960’s mirrored ceiling are well-recognised and popular features of the hotel. Accommodating up to 1,100 people in cocktail stand-up function, the completely pillarless ballroom is one of the largest in Sydney and equipped with advanced audio-visual facilities delivered by Sofitel Wentworth’s own in-house audio-visual team
