5 family friendly christmas holiday fun activities in sydney at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

With the holiday period approaching, Sydney is lighting up and truly has something to delight almost everyone. Here, we review five of the most family-friendly activities, special offers and fun things to do this Christmas in Sydney.

The Boulevard of Light
Free of admission charges, the wonderful lights in the heart of Sydney are a great way for all the family to get into the festive mood. Pitt Street Mall welcomes visitors with a series of special offers, while thousands of LEDs illuminate a beautiful canopy of Christmas trees. Also known as the City of Sydney’s Christmas Light Forest, the display adds a sparkle to late night shopping. What’s more, there are live performances of carols every Thursday evening until 22nd December 2017.

Winter Wonderland Luncheon

For something special to do on Christmas Day, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is offering a delicious luncheon, set in a snow theme in the historic Wentworth Ballroom. Special ‘Frozen’ kids dessert choices follow the full dinner with trimmings, along with a visit from Santa, photo opportunities and a sing-along.

Santa at the QVB
More than just a great place to shop, the Queen Victoria Building (or QVB) is replete with history and tour guides, eager to share its grand old charm. This December sees a distinctively festive theme with a grotto in the twinkling Enchanted Garden (on level two). Here, youngsters can see Santa and look for his little helpers, the elves, around the edge of the garden. To be sure of a place in the QVB Sydney Christmas activities, book online.

The Gruffalo at Sydney Opera House
This captivating picture book musical will thrill children over three years of age as much as older members of the family. From 7th to 23rd December, see Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's much-loved tale come to life on stage in a daring woodland adventure. Just back from London's West End and Broadway, the splendid musical production enthrals with its characters – Mouse, cunning Fox, eccentric old Owl and party-mad Snake.

Christmas Mass at St Mary's Cathedral

This Sydney landmark is perhaps at its most visited during the Christmas season. A series of Christmas Mass events complete with choral choirs provide an opportunity for many to express their faith. For the less religious and those of other faiths, St Mary’s Cathedral is still a destination worth putting on your Christmas to-do list. There is simply no other church like it in the country. Completed more than 100 years after the architect’s death, the impressive architecture is seen from its record-breaking length to its iconic twin spires.
