Sofitel Sydney Wentworth
AS THE WEATHER HEATS UP, THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO IN SYDNEY.
Art and about
It’s never too early to develop a love of art. The Art Gallery of NSW runs specialised workshops introducing kids to the Dutch masters or contemporary works through craft and play. You’ll also find a program of themed activities at The Australian Museum, giving kids the chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about their favorite exhibit.
All the world's a stage
The Gruffalo, Captain Hook and the team from British TV show Braniac will be taking to the stage at the Sydney Opera House this summer. Be swept away with musical performances, dazzling circus acts and explosive experiments. Kids can also join in hands-on detective workshops, an interactive quest or a backstage tour complete with dress ups from the theater's legendary costume box.
Let's dance
Dance is a universal language and children of all ages can fall under its spell at the Australian Ballet. Step through the looking glass with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, discover Tchaikovsky’s celebrated The Sleeping Beauty with a special 50-minute version at Storytime Ballet and get a glimpse of the dancers’ daily life with exclusive behind the curtain tours.
Just Keep swimming
Arguably the prettiest pool in the city,Andrew (Boy) Charlton Poolsits on the edge of the Domain. Swim a few laps in the 50-meter pool, splash around in the shallow Program Pool or just relax with a coffee at the Poolside Café and drink in the stunning harbour views. Cook + Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre, just across from Hyde Park, has an indoor lap pool, wave pool and hydrotherapy pool set under a glass roof with the summer sun streaming through.
Penguin Parade
It’s hot outside, but inside SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s world-first Penguin Expedition it’s a cool and comfortable 6°C. Hop in a raft and sail through a sub-Antarctic complete with whistling winds, flurries of snow and a colony of king and Gentoo penguins. The immersive experience is also an important lesson in conservation for kids and adults alike.
Down and dirty
A magical outdoor adventure for kids has just opened in Centennial Park. The Ian Potter Wild Play Garden is a vast nature-based play area with a water park, wooden climbing frames, bridges, tunnels, muddy swamp and tree house. It's the first space of its kind in the city and encourages kids to get out into nature and away from their screens – and maybe get a little dirty in the process.
Festive and Frozen
It might be summer, but it’s a winter wonderland at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. To celebrate the release of a new ‘Frozen’ short feature, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, families can sample a special Frosted High Tea or escape to a traditional snowy Christmas Day with a Frozen-themed buffet (and a visit from some very special guests). Spend the night until January 31 and kids will also receive an exclusive Frozen welcome gift.
