Sofitel Sydney Wentworth
A sweet moment with internationally renowned cake artist and founder of Hello Naomi, Naomi Henderson.
Hello Naomi Signature Cookie
Naomi Henderson is an internationally renowned speciality cake designer based in Newcastle, Australia. Her work has been featured in many leading fashion magazines such as Vogue Brides Australia and Harper’s Bazaar Brides.
A baker at heart from an early age, Naomi’s passion and hard work inspired her to turn a much loved hobby into a successful business. Naomi opened up her own dream cake shop in 2013 and now leads a team of talented and dedicated staff.
Have you always wanted to be a baker and cake decorator?
When I was young I loved looking through my mums cake decorating books, I loved baking and art but I had no idea cake decorating could be a career! I also loved maths and science so I studied computer engineering and robotics at university and discovered my ‘natural talent’ for cakes while I was studying.
You have a beautiful and distinct style, how would you define your style?
Oh thanks! I think it was best described in a Bazaar Brides article as ‘Modern Classic’. I like to think that whilst my designs have a classic, timeless elegance to them, they are crafted with clean, crisp details making them distinctly modern at the same time.
What is your feature cookie decoration element these days?
My signature cookie design is a little Japanese ‘kawaii’ face on cute shapes such as clouds, milk and cookies, paddle pops, eggs and bacon etc.
Your greatest creative inspirations/influences?
I am inspired by flowers, the sky, rainbows, old romantic movies and all things Japanese!
What do you love most about your job?
Every day I am surrounded by so much colour, so many pretty things that also happen to be delicious! I am always pinching myself that my little dream shop has come to life.
Most ‘eyebrow raising’ creation?
*impressive? Why it would have to be a very special 6 tier grand centerpiece cake that I designed and created for the spectacular Sofitel Sydney Wentworth 50th birthday party!
*surprising? My sugar flower arrangements can be quite realistic- when scrolling through images people are quite surprised to find out they are not real!
What was the most challenging project you have worked on?
Why it would have to be a very special 6 tier grand centerpiece cake that I designed and created for the spectacular Sofitel Sydney Wentworth 50th birthday party!
Signature piece: a two tier cake with sugar flower arrangement!
Naomi will be hosting cake decorating classes for kids under 12 years this April during the school holidays. Discover more at sofitelsydney.com.au
