Feel that nip in the air? The seasons are changing and that means there’s a whole new lineup of great things to see and do in the city.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour – La Traviata, 27 March - 26 April

Experience the joy and heartache of the world’s most popular opera, La Traviata: the story that inspired Moulin Rouge. Fireworks light up the sky at every performance and a giant chandelier shimmers over the harbour stage with the biggest scenes featuring 80 performers on stage.

Alliance Francaise French Film Festival, 10 March - 8 April

La vie est belle (life is beautiful) at the 30th annual Alliance Francaise Film Festival, a little taste of French culture in Australia. More than 50 films will be shown during the month-long festival, featuring legends of French cinema like Juliette Binoche, Vincent Cassel, Vanessa Paradis, Isabelle Huppert and Gérard Depardieu. Screenings are held in cinemas across the city and there are a number of Q&A sessions held with directors after the films.

Bell Shakespeare Hamlet, 5 March - 4 April

Hamlet is a portrait of a young man struggling with the death of his father, his mother’s hasty remarriage to his uncle, and the vision of his father’s ghost looming in his mind’s eye. A story of revenge, passion and deception, this is a Hamlet for our time. Bell Shakespeare opens its 30th year anniversary celebrations with one of Shakespeare’s most iconic and tragic works, directed by Artistic Director Peter Evans.

Easter events in the CBD, April

There’s lots to do around Sydney over the Easter period, with special events on and all major attractions open. Head to the Royal Botanic Garden on Saturday 11 April and Sunday 12 April for The Great Garden Hunt. Kids can follow the trail map, complete activities and be rewarded with chocolate eggs along the way. On Monday 13 April watch the Sydney Easter Parade make its way through the city with huge balloons, a marching band and performers in vibrant costumes.

Vivid Sydney, 22 May - 14 June

One of the city’s most iconic events, Vivid Sydney will illuminate the harbour city for 23 days of light, music and ideas. Now in its 11th year the festival attracts more than 2.3 million people, drawn to innovative installations, interactive entertainment, outdoor art galleries and grand projections covering landmark buildings. Alongside all the colour and light is a stellar program of local and international music acts performing everywhere from the Opera House to tiny dive bars, as well as some of the world’s great minds speaking at Vivid Ideas.
